HRA's Allstar Volunteer Trainers
Meet our volunteer trainers! This group of volunteers dedicate their time and skills to teach, answer questions, and lead by example around the shelter. We are incredibly grateful for them and the joy they bring to HRA. Here is an introduction to our current amazing team of volunteer trainers!
Alesha B: Green and Blue Dog Trainings
Alesha is originally from Florida and volunteered at two other local shelters after moving to the DMV. She stayed at HRA because of the variety of ways in which volunteers can help animals and people. She is studying to get her CPDT certificate so she can better help our shelter dogs and help more dogs stay in their homes and out of shelters.
Mike S: Green Dog Trainings
After 34 years in various (often customer facing) IT management positions, Mike S retired early during the pandemic and turned to volunteering. His love of animals and experience interfacing with customers at all levels led him to volunteer with adoptions, helping people and animals find their best friends. Helping and mentoring new volunteers is great way to pay it forward as Mike remains grateful for all the experienced volunteers who helped him along the way.
Mike W: Green Dog and Green Cat Trainings
Mike W has been working with shelter animals for years but has really fallen in love with the HRA community. He has 3 cats (funny story, just ask) and once helped a dog out of the top of a tree (again, just ask). He is happy to help anyway he can and loves mentoring new volunteers and answering questions.
Rivka G: Green Cat Trainings
Rivka is a long-time kitten foster; they've fostered over 250 animals at this point and loved every one. They currently have four cats of their own (it was an accident really). They've been volunteering at HRA since before it had the new name.
Sidnie C: Welcome to HRA tours
Sidnie has been a volunteer at HRA for one year. She currently assists in various areas at HRA including Welcome to HRA tours, adoptions, foster, and dog walking. Although her career is in Public Health, her heart is with animal welfare and advocacy
Thank you for all you do!
