Who We Are

The Adoption & Adoption Events program at HRA includes a dedicated team of staff and volunteers committed to connecting animals with loving families. Our adoption staff are skilled matchmakers who help guide families through the adoption process from the moment they meet their new companion.

The program works closely with other teams across the organization to ensure a seamless transition from shelter to home.

What We Do

The Adoption & Adoption Events program focuses on matching members of the public with companion animals through both in-shelter adoptions, adoptions from foster homes, and off-site events in the community. We follow an open adoption philosophy that aims to reduce traditional barriers while emphasizing thoughtful matchmaking and post-adoption support.

With training, volunteers support a variety of roles across the program—from leading meet & greets and providing counseling to making follow-up calls and enhancing animals’ online profiles with photos, videos, and creative bios.

In addition to shelter-based efforts, the program regularly hosts adoption events at off-site locations, bringing adoptable animals into the community and reaching new audiences. Volunteers and staff work together at these events to showcase animals, answer questions, and guide potential adopters through the process, extending our reach and creating more opportunities for animals to find their perfect match.
